The Care of an Anthurium Red Hot

Question
I can't seem to get it to bloom the flowers. The leaves are still green, but there are very few of those. I have it in my office where there is no sunlight. It says medium light and I have ultraviolet light in my office. Could that be the problem . I water it occasionally, but never know how much to water it and I water it with bottled water.
What am I doing wrong?

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

I suspect that light is the problem. Ultraviolet light is in a part of the light spectrum that is not useful to plants. Although I don't believe the UV light will damage your plant, by itself it is not adequate light for any plant.

Some bright, mostly indirect natural light is what Anturiuns need to flower. A north or east windowsill is best. Fluorescent light is sometimes adequate to produce flowers, but only if the fluorescent tubes are very close to the plant.

Anthuriums must stay in small pots to flower. They should be watered thoroughly when the top half-inch of potting material feels dry. Bottled water is fine. Fertilize monthly at half-strength.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
