QuestionMy wife and I were given a new house plant about 8 months ago. The plant had no identification, so I will do my best to describe. It came in a 12" pot. In looking at it, it looked rubbery and artificial with a kind of waxy finish. It has multiple stocks that kind of "ray" up out of the pot. The stocks are of a woody color and have annual grooves kind of like bamboo. The leave emerge one by one, are very thick and pulpy with a deep green color. The leaves are plump kind of like an aloe plant would feel. Little by little, this plant has shed it leaves. I tried different light and moisture levels and can't seem to stop the loss of leaves. I repotted some time ago using standard soil. Any ideas you would have would be appreciated.

AnswerTim,
First let's identify the plant. It sounds like a ficus elsatica or rubber tree plant. Please check the pictures at the site below and let me know if that is the plant, then I will give you care instructions. If it is not the plant you have please describe your plant's leaves by shape and size.
You can also send me a picture at

I will do my best to help you identify it and give you care instructions.
