Answer
Charlie,

My first question is this an indoor plant or outdoor plant? Hen and chicks can be either indoors or outdoors, in any case it is a succulent that stores water in it's thick leaves. As such it need full sun if possible and only water when the pot is very dry and light weight, generally every 10 to 14 days is often enough for watering. When the soil surface seems dry the soil still holds a lot of moisture in the root zone. The best way to tell if a plant needs water is to pick it up and see how heavy it is.  After a few weeks you will easily be able to tell when it needs water by how light it is.  If there is water in the drain tray under the pot pour it off immediately and let the plant dry out. You might even want to transplant it to some dry soil. If you do, I think you will find almost no roots because they have rotted off due to sitting in too much water. Let them sit in dry soil for awhie and they will grwo new roots if they are not too far gone. More houseplants are killed by overwatering than underwatering. Good luck.
