what do I need to do with molded soil

Question
what do I need to do with molded soil, and what do I need to do with soil that has some type of eggs in them, look like it's not good for the soil. I did change soil for my plant, and again it some how got into the soil.

Answer
Hi Glenda,

It is unlikely that you have insect eggs in your soil. Many soil mixes contain tiny round pellets of fertilizer that are frequently mistaken for insect or spider eggs.

Mushrooms or soil mold comes from fungus spores in the soil. They thrive in cool, damp conditions. They are not harmful to plants. If you repotted your plant and still have mold, then there is a very good chance that the soil that you used is contaminated with fungus spores. You may not want to use it again.

First, try scraping off excess loose soil and the mold from the surface of the rootball. The application of a light spray of diluted alcohol sometimes helps. Then let the soil dry out as much as possible without damaging the plant. A warmer, sunnier location will also help deter the mold. In extreme cases, a systemic fungicide can be applied as a soil drench.

Sometimes excess minerals in the soil accumulate as a white deposit on the surface of the soil. These mineral deposits are sometimes mistaken for fungus or mold. If this is what you have, scrape off the deposits, flush the soil thoroughly with clear water, stop fertilizing and don't water from the bottom.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
