QuestionI would like to know how to root a corn stalk plant. I recently moved and one of the stalks fell off the orginal plant. Can I just stick the stalk into the dirt?
A branch of the ficus plant broke off and I would like to know if it would be possible to root the branch by graphing it to the tree?
Thank you
Kathy
AnswerHi Kathy
Usually the best way to root either of these plants is by air layering. Since they have broken off of the plant, you can stick the limbs into a water and root this way. Make sure you have a good node area in the water. This is a place where a leaf grows from. After roots have formed, you will be able to plant back into the pot. As far as the ficus goes, you can try grafting the branch back to the tree or you can try to root by placing into water. Go to your local nursery and buy root stimulant or fungicide powder. This will keep the branch from rotting where it was broken off.
Good Luck Kathy! I have done this with a majority of my plants and have always had great success.
