ants and houseplants

Question
hello-
My ornamental peppers that I grew from seeds and keep in my kitchen window are infested with ants. How do I get rid of the ants without harming the plants?
Thank you!
Judith

Answer
Hi Judith
I hate ants!  We just moved into a new house and had a horrible problem with those tiny water ants that bite.  It took almost 3 months to get rid of them. Meanwhile, I walked around looking as if I had the measles, they bit me whenever I went outside.
If you do not want to use a pesticide (you can go to your local nursery and look for pest sprays for vegetable gardens) I have heard of some home remedy's that they say work:
*Baby powder-for some reason, ants hate it.  Sprinkle around the area where they are getting in.
*White Vinegar-put into spray bottle and spray around the plants, in the soil, the counters, etc.  It will not hurt the plants and the ants hate it.  I have also heard to use apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar.
*My old stand by may work for ants in your house plants-dish soap, rubbing alcohol and water mixed in a spray bottle.  I use this on all my plants-it works for spider mite and mealy bugs.  You can try with ants.
Good Luck Judith!
Leslie
