My calla lily is turning yellow...

Question
My calla lily is turning yellow and losing all of the leaves. They are bending in the middle and drooping. I water it weekly and the soil is moist but not wet. It receives indirect sunlight. What do I need to do with it.

Answer
Hi Barb,

The yellow calla lily (Zanthedeschia ellottiana) needs a special winter dormant period if you want it to bloom again late next spring. Allow the soil to dry out completely and store it in a location that has a constant temperature in the low to mid 40's. I know this is hard to do in the typical home, but do your best to keep it in a cool place.

You can start forcing your calla anytime from January to April by gradually increasing the temperature and soil moisture.

Many people discard their Calla lilies after they finish flowering because it is difficult to get them tho flower again.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
