QuestionHello I have a large Jade plant and it is loosing a lot of leaves they lurn yellow and fall off .I repotted it 3-4 mo ago and it has been doing well it gets good light and I only water every 1-2 weeks can you please help me Thank you Joe
AnswerHi Joe,
Jades will drop leaves for many different reasons, not all of them bad. Unless they are pruned regularly, they will periodically "self-prune" by dropping off older leaves so that new ones can grow in. If your plant is otherwise healthy and nothing has changed in its environment recently, then that may what is happening with your Jade.
Improper watering is also a common cuase of leaf drop, particularly overwatering. Large, mature Jades rarely need repotting. If they are unnecessarily repotted, the excess soil that is added can retain moisture for too long and gradually rot the roots. Often the first symptom is leaf drop. I hope this is not the case with your Jade.
Good light for a Jade means right in a sunny window that gets direct sun for at least several hours per day. Inadequate light will cause some leaf drop, but will not kill the plant.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
