QuestionHi will,
I boughta a little air plant. I searched the internet to learn about how to care for it. However, I did not understand how to water it clearly. Some people suggest to put it in a bucket of water and keep it there for 12 hours. Then they suggest not to water it for 10 to 14 days. Another suggestion is to water it 2-3 times a week. So, I do not know which one is the best method and how long I should keep my air plant in the water. Can you give me some advise please?
Thanks Derya
AnswerHi Derya,
Airplant is in the Bromeliad (pineapple) family and its botanical name is Tillandsia.
The reason you are getting conflicting advice on watering is because it depends on the size and the way that your airplant is planted. If it is in a moss-filled pot, then it should be watered only when the moss feels quite dry. Depending on temperature, humidity, and light that might be every one to three weeks. If it is attached to an open board or not inside a pot, then I recommend a thorough soaking in the sink or bucket once per week with daily misting in between. When you soak, you don't need to leave it for more than a minute or two.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
