Kiwis

Question
I have started two plants from the seeds from a grocery store bought kiwi.  Both plants are in a 6" clay pot.  Living in Boston, can I leave these outside until a hard frost and then bring them inside until Spring?

Thanks for your previous information about avocados.
Bill

Answer
Bill,

There are 2 types of Kiwis, the larger of which is the tropical kiwi and also the most common in the stores. That is probably what you have. So, no, I don't beleive you should leave it out until frost. Frost will most likely kill it.

Check out this website for more info.

They will need a longer cool period than just until after the first frost. They need to be kept cool until spring.  I would suggest putting them in a cool garage that doesn't freeze but stays cold. If there is a particularly cold night you may need to take them in for the night but put them back out in the morning, do not keep them in for an extended period.

Good luck.
