Plant Pest: Scale

Question
At least two of my favorite plants have been infected with what i beleive are scales.  They look like oval, shell shape lumpy blisters on the underside of the leaves and stems.  Since these "lumpy blisters" have appeared, leaves that have these "lumpy blisters" are yellowing and dropping off.  There is also a sticky substance appearing on the leaves as well.  How can I get rid of this infestation?  Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Lawrence
I know exactly what you are going through-all my years of raising houseplants and I had my first case of scale a couple of weeks ago.  I had purchased a new plant at a grocery store and it was loaded with scale so badly, I had to throw it away.
You can try mixing about 1 tsp. of rubbing alcohol and 1 tsp. of Murphy's Oil soap in a spray bottle and misting the plant with this.  Also, you can purchase a systemic at your local nursery.  This is a granule that you put into the soil and it works from the roots up.

Good Luck Lawrence.
Leslie
