Questionhi, thanks for replying, he is on a west-facing windowsill, so he gets
afternoon and evening sun, although we live in scotland, so we get
our share of cloudy days, even in summer.

hi, i have a scheflera arboricola, who i have recently
repotted into a sankey self watering pot. since repotting,
his growth stopped for a while (i know this can be normal),
and his upper leaves began to show small discoloured
spots (a kind of dark red/ brown) which are more visible on
the undersides of the leaves. the spots are not dried out
looking, just a change in colour. also when his growth did
eventually resume, the new growth seems slightly
discoloured, a slightly red colour, but turns a nice green as
it gets bigger, still with some of the small spots. some of
his new leafs were slightly misshapen/distorted. his new
growth now seems to be the right shape. any idea what
might be caausing it, and how to get rid of the spots?
thanks,
elaine

Elaine,
How much sunshine does this plant get? Not just light but sunshine? Let me know and I will
give you an answer.

AnswerElaine,
Scheffs need lots of light and like tp dry out well between waterings. I suspect the self watering pot is the problem. It does not give the roots the dry period they need between waterings. Pour as much water off as possible so it can dry out for a week or so. Then treat it like a regular pot and do not fill the resevoir. Or put it back in a regular pot the same size and try not to disturb the roots in the transfer.
My paternal grandmother was a Monroe and her great great great grandfather came from Scotland. I have always wanted to visit there and see the Munro castle in north eastern Scotland.
Good luck with you scheff. I think if you give it a few days of dryness between waterings you will not have any problems.
