QuestionPlease Help! I recently planted some peace lillys in my front yard. For the first month they were impressive! Now they are turning dark brown and the leaves are dying before they even mature. The plants are still blooming, but they look horrible. They are not in direct sunlight, i was very careful about that. I water them as soon as they start to look like they are wilting. I have cut them back, but nothing is working. Could this maybe be the soil? And what can i do to help them?
AnswerHi Kay,
Unless you live in a tropical climate where peace lilies grow naturally, then your peace lilies will not fare well outside in the ground.
Potted peace lilies are hybrids that are intended for indoor use. Outside the light is too bright (except in very deep shade) and the wind and heavy rain are too strong for their fragile leaves. Their watering requirements are also too particular for outside use.
Some people have success with peace lilies outside if they keep them in pots and in a deeply shaded area where they are also protected from wind and heavy rain.
All-in-all, they are really best left indoors.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
