Jolla Plant Care

Question
We have a Jolla Plant ( "Hoy-ya") the blossoms, when it blossoms, are like tiny pastel pink almost white star shaped flowers and look like they are made out of wax.  It is a vine plant - ours hasn't blossomed for quite a while - what should I do?

Thank you - Gwyn

Answer
Hi Gwyn
Hoya, aka 'Wax Plant' or 'Shooting Star' is a beautiful, thick leaved ivy type plant.  The leaves are thick and almost wax like.  The Hoya blooms im just about every color except blue.  You will find that they Hoya will bloom more in the summer time, when they days are longer.
Have you repotted your Hoya lately?  They need to be a bit rootbound in order to bloom.  If you need to fertilize, try a good African Violet fertilizer.

If you do repot your Hoya, make sure you use a well draining soil mix, try mixing some gypsum or perlite in with the soil to make it looser.
Good luck!
