QuestionHello! I have a beautiful angel wing plant. It is in a pot about 8in by 8in. When i bought it, the entire plant was bushy and full but now 50 percent of the stems are drooping. The leaves that droop are not dead, and there are new leaves growing. Is it root bound? I keep it moist and mist it daily and it is in indirect sun. I don't know if i should cut off the stems that droop or just let the plant run its course since it is growing new leaves. Please help! Thank you much
AnswerSarah,
Your subject line said drooping caladium but your letter said angel wing plant, an angel wing is a begonia. Either way, with either plant, the problem is too much water. The roots are rotting because you are keeping it in a swamp. Cut back and let the surface of the soil dry out, there will still be plenty of moisture in the root zone. In fact the roots need to breath a bit between waterings. It can't sit in a swamp all the time. Let it go till the surface of the soil feels dry before you water again. Over a couple of weeks the roots will grow back and the leaves will stop drooping. It is not rootbound. Don't even consider repotting. Heat can also be a problem, caladiums don't like too much heat. Move it to a cool shady location. Good luck.
