hybiscus in the garden

Question
I bought a hybiscus plant in a pot almost 2 months ago. I planted it in my garden, in a spot facing the afternoon sunlight. It bloomed and, despite not having grown much, it was fine, until today, when I noticed that most of its leaves were gone.. There are no dried leaves on the ground... And, since I observe the plants every day, I never noticed the leaves drying out.. So do you think there are insects? What should I do?

Answer
Dedar Habdu,

You said most of the leaves are gone? Do the ones that are left show any signs of animal or insect damage. Japanese beetles are worse this year than in previous years. Michigan also has gypsy moths but I do not know what would strip it that fast.  If the other leaves do not show signs of damage and you can't find any leaves, it may have been human damage. Do you live in town or in a rural area? Is it a perennial hibiscus (fuzzy leaves) or a tropical hibiscus (shiny leaves)? Let me know and i will give you further advice. If you really think it was insects I would suggest spraying it with Neem Oil. It is available at any garden center, such as Lowes or Home Depot. Follow label directions. Good luck.
