QuestionDarlene, Thanks for your helpful suggestions. I have another question. I have an African violet that does well in my kitchen window. Is it possible to start a new plant from it. If so, how? Thanks. Gail

Question -
Darlene, Please suggest some plants that would like the environment of my screened in porch that faces the west, has indirect light, and catches a few hours of late afternoon sun. Also, it needs to be something that withstands the hot summer temperatures. The plants do not necessary have to be flowering, but I would like something with color. Thanks. Gail

Dear Gail,
A large peace lilly would be a good choice and they do bloom. Also there are many plants in the begonia family that would do well. Wax begonias like more sun but many of the angel wing begonias and the tuberous or rhizome begonias would be great. Many have beautiful leaves and the flowers are a bonus. Large Boston ferns would also do well on your porch. African violets would also do well as would most foliage plants sold as "house plants". If you have a question about a specific plant you find feel free to write again. Good luck.
Darlene
AnswerDear Gail,
African violets can be started from leaf cuttings. Here are a couple of websites that can give you easy instructions with pictures.
