QuestionI have a Mass Cane Diacaeba fragrans massangeana plant about 3 ft. high. The ends of some of the leaves are turning brown. I keep the plant moist and have it located in a sunroom with moderate to high light. Should this plant have a particular type fertilizer? I used to call this plant the TiKi plant but the label quoted the above name.
Thank you for your help.
AnswerShirley,
Mass Cane Dracaena fragrans massangeana are also known as corn plants. They like high light but NO direct sun shining on them. They hate city water with chlorine or flouride. If your water has that you need to let the water sit in an open bucket for at least 48 hours before using it so the chlorine and flouride dissipates. They also like to be moist but not wet. I reccommend that you wait until the surface is dry before watering again. A water soluable fertilizer (such as Miracle Grow)once a month is fine.
Your leaf problem is most likely being caused by to much sun or water with flouride. They are very sensitive to flouride. Here is a website with more info about optimum care. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/BODY_EP149
Good luck.
