yellowing palm

Question
Hi there,
I'm so sad.  I have a new frondy friend that is yellowing.  This is a tall, 6 foot, palm.  I repotted it as soon as I got it, weeks ago,  the soil now has a whitish firm surface.  Plus, I turned on the heat last night and now some of the lower leaves are limp and yellow.  What can I do?
Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Holly,

I will need some additinoal information before I can help you.

There are dozens of different types of palms and they have very different light, water, and temperature requirements. So we need to ID your palm first. If you can e-mail a couple of photos of it to me at the address below my name, I can provide the ID.

What kind of soil did you use and what is in it that is creating the "whitish firm surface?"

What is the diameter of the new pot?

What is the source of light for your palm and how far away from the light source is it?

How often do you water it and how much to you provide?

I look forward to your reply so that I can help you determine just what is wrong with your palm.

Rewgards,
Will Creed
