plant preservation

Question
What is the process called that preserves plants (other than drying them) in their natural "green" state?  Can it be done with palms and banana trees?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Susan,

I am not aware of any scientific term for preserving plants. Such plants are usually refered to as "preserved plants" or "naturally preserved plants." There are many companies that preserve plants and they do not all use the same technique. Perhaps, one of those companies has a specific name for their process, but I am not familiar with it.

I know that palms are one of the most commonly preserved plants and I believe that banana trees can also be preserved.

Here is a link to a site that tells you a bit more about preserving palms.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
