QuestionI live in Okinawa, Japan. I bought my plant at a local grocery store here on an air base, but it did not have a label on it as to what it was or how to take care of it. It's a medium sized green, very leafy plant. It has a lot of small branches coming off of it with several thin leaves lining each branch. It stays very moist although I have only watered it once since I replanted it. When I watered it, I fed it with some miracle grow. I have only had the plant a week and already one of the bottom branches is turning brown the another is looking wilted. What do I do? Thank you!

AnswerCourtney,
It sounds like a small ficus tree. The new soil you used is holding too much water. If you have sand available unpot it and mix sand and your potting soil 50/50 and repot the tree. Your pot does have a drainage hole in the bottom I assume. When you water an hour later you need to dump the excess water out of the drain tray. Then do not water it again until the soil feels very dry. It is wilting because you have it sitting in a swamp and it will soon die if you don't get it dried out. Do not water it more often than once a week. More plants are killed by too much water than any other cause. Move it to the sunniest window available and it will be happier. Good luck.
