QuestionI am not sure that the plant I have is a split leaf Philidendron. But I need some help! It is turning yellow. and not growing, there are some brown spots on some of the leavs. I dont see any bugs on the leaves but do see a little buts in the soil. they look kind of silvery. you dont see them unless you blow lightly and then they move. there are a lot of them. i have tried a plant spray but they dont go away. I dont know if I need to re pot it, It looks so sad. I just know it is a plant I would like to save. it was at my fathers funeral and is a reminder of him. thanks for your time
AnswerHi Linda,
The bugs in the soil may be centipedes of some type or possibly fungus gnat larvae. However, they are not hurting your plant. The yellow leaves and brown spots are caused by something else.
To tell you what that something else is, I need some information about your plant. First, it would help if you can e-mail a photo to me at my address listed below my name. That way I can identify just what plant you have.
Second, I need to know what the source of light is and how far away from the source the plant is. How often do you water? Have you repotted it recently? Is your local water on the hard side? Have you noticed any stickiness on the leaves or underneath the plant on the table or floor?
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
