QuestionWe are having a time keeping these plants in our church auditorium from wilting or dying. The auditorum gets to about 50 during the week and is heated several times during the week to 70 degrees. They seem to wilt weekly; we have continually replaced them. Filtered light through stained glass windows. Can we grow them here?
Maybe you would recommend another platform plant for our auditorium. (we have three on each side)
AnswerDale,
If the light isn't bright enough on a sunny day (without lights on) for your hand to cast a good shadow then it is not a bright enough location for any plant to grow. Have you considered moving the plants to a lobby area in front of a window when the services aren't going on?
If the auditorium is bright enough for the plants to grow it may be that they are being overwatered. Spathyphyllums like to dry out totally between waterings. They need to dry out enough that they feel light weight between waterings. Mine get watered every 2 weeks. When they are kept that cool they tend to use less water. It seems you may need to increase the light and reduce the water.
Good luck.
