Wilted Phalaenopsis flowers

Question
Please Help!  I have 6 Phals which are in full flower & were looking absolutely amazing until we lit our Rayburn!!  Within a couple of days living in the hotter room seemed too much - ALL of the plants' flowers folded up & wilted, even when I tried to save some that weren't so badly off.  Can I do anything to revive my beauties. I am so upset!

Answer
Kandy, the problem seems to lie with your Rayburn unit.  There are many types of fuels used in different Rayburn units.  Those fueled by wood or anthracite especially may produce combustion gasses which can have the effects you described on buds and flowers. I do not think the heat alone (provided it is less than 85 degrees F.) would do this, but combustion gases from the unit can have this effect. While buds and flowers are especially susceptible, the plant is not likely to be affected.  In the future it would be best to isolate the plants by having them in another room.  The flowers will be fine at temperatures of 60 - 75 degrees F.
