vanda leaves turning yellow after i repotted

Question
hi. I repotted the vanda in a wooden box and the leaves have started to fall and tun yellow. even the bottom roots have turned brown and some have dried but i feel the other upper roots are not doing bad. please can you advise me to this as i really would like to save my plant from dying

Answer
Manisha, it is not uncommon to lose the lower leaves on vandas.  This not a problem as long as the newer leaves (ie top-most) are healthy. You also should see root tip growth either now or within a couple of months after repotting. You should have repotted it in a slat basket to allow air flow to the roots. It should be hung outside in a semishaded location. It is possible (if you use a slat basket) to water it every day or every other day. You need little to no potting mix in the slst basket as the roots enjoy exposure to humid air. Brown roots usually are a sign of dry conditions as the root cells develop a cork-like layer to prevent water loss.
