Bifrenaria inodora

Question
Hi Wayne,

I live in Singapore - and the climate here is 24-32 celsius all year round, with 2 main seasons - rainy and dry.

I bought a Bifrenaria inodora in May 2011 (in bloom). you can view the picture here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/23595849@N07/7565234396/

I grew it under filtered shade (i have a double layer rack in the garden- top rack has full sun orchids, and lower rack has shady orchids) Now I am struggling to keep it alive. You can view its condition here. Should I repot? Websites tell me it hates having the roots disturbed. I have moved it to complete shade now.

Thanks for your advice.

Answer
Diana, yes this plant does not like to have its roots disturbed so needs an open potting mix with good drainage. You probably should move it to the top rack as it likes full sun. After it finishes flowering, water only enough to keep the pseudobulbs plump.  It likes good humidity so you may mist in lieu of watering.  When new growth starts, watering can be increased and feeding can be resumed.
