Hi, my question is....i LOVE Orchids and I would like to get some kind of plant for my desk at work, hopefully one that flowers.  There are no windows where I sit so I was just wondering would an Orchid even survive at my desk or do they need some sun?  If it wouldn't work, do you have any suggestions on any plants that would be good for the office.  Thanks

Valerie, you might try a phalaenopsis orchid.  They can be grown under artificial lights-- depending upon the light level.  They can do okay under the same lighting conditions as houseplants such as African violets. It may not flower under low light conditions.  The option is to grow it (or several) at home in the east window where, after it flowers, you can bring it to work.
