QuestionMy dendrobium is in full bloom with about 20 blooms but the canes are about two feet long with no leaves. What do I do about the long canes after bloom so they want be as leggy.
AnswerEstelle, unfortunately it is in the nature of many dendrobiums to have long canes. There also is a type of dendrobium called a deciduous type which lose their leaves. There are many types of dendrobiums but, to do a little experimenting, you could remove the top of one cane. Make your cut about 1/3 of the way to the tip and about one inch above a node (ie joint) in the cane. There is a possibility that eventually new growth could emerge at the node just below the cut.
