QuestionDear Sir,
I just purchased a pot of liparis grossa. I searched the web for the care of this orchid and so far I only know that it prefers semi-shade. May I know what's the care required for it?

AnswerThanks for your question Alfredo. While I have not grown this miniature species (there are 200 species of Liparis), it probably would be difficult to grow under your conditions. While it is a native terrestrial from Taiwan, it is cool growing (ie night temperatures of 50-60 degrees F). It likes full shade. I have seen it grown in well drained clay pots. Because it is a terrestrial, I would use a little peat and perlite combined with some seedling fir bark or other 1/4 inch particles to allow rapid drainage. Keep the mix damp to the touch but not wet.
