QuestionDear Sir,
Recently I chanced upon 2 interesting orchid: Dendrobium aphyllum and Pygmorchis Pussila sold at a local nursery(Singapore). May I know what are the growing needs of these orchids?

AnswerAlfredo, first let me introduce you to an online site for species. It is called the "Orchid Species Encyclopedia". It contains descriptions of most known orchid species including photos. I am hoping to meet the sites creator, Jay Pfahl, in May. There is a spelling error in the "Pygmorchis" which should be "Psymorchis". It prefers bright indirect light and temperatures cool at night (ie 55-66 degrees F) and warm in the day (75-85 degreees F). It blooms from fall thru spring in its native South American habitat. Will not take full sun.
Dendrobium aphyllum takes similar conditions but blooms in the spring. Remember to give it a rest when not in active growth.
