QuestionSo my boyfriend gifted me a beautiful pot of Phal orchids a little over a week ago and I have noticed recently that the petals have become slightly floppy on several of the flowers, and they seem to be closing in on themselves.I would def. appreciate your feedback onto why this is happening and how I can fix the problem, if there is in fact a problem. AnswerBrenda, there are one of two most likely answers. The first is that the flowers had been open for some time before he obtained them and were near the end of their life. Individual orchid flowers have a lifr span of 3-4 weeks. Another possibility is that they got chilled before, during, or after their transport. Most orchid flowers, being tropical in nature, do not tolerate getting chilled and that can cause them to prematurely die. I assume that you received a phal plant in flower. If so, you can concentrate on growing it on to flower again. If it is a plant, and you would like to grow it, I can make some suggestions.
