QuestionHi Wayne!
I have an orchid thats about 3 years old, it has bloomed about once every year. And this time it is growing 2 stems! They haven't started blooming yet but the buds are growing quickly on each. One stem is also quite a bit taller than the other. I was just wondering..how did this happen? Is there something I might have done to encourage this? Does the plant need special care (more water, etc) since there are 2 stems? Just curious about this since I'm pretty new to keeping orchids and this is the first time this has happened. Thanks so much!
AnswerAshley, with proper care, as a plant increases in vigor, it is capable of producing more flower spikes and, consequently, more flowers. Usually, good flowering requires adequate light and a healthy root system. It sounds as if you have both. Phalaenopsis orchids are light feeders and you appear to be doing fine in that category. I will just reinforce what you already know about repotting to keep the root system healthy.
