Question
orchid
Hi Sir,
May I know what is the name of this orchid and how to care for it?
AnswerAlfredo, it looks like a member of the cattleya alliance. If it is, it should have pseudobulbs from which the leaves emerge. The leaves are fairly thick and there may be one or two leaves per pseudobulb. There are many genera in the cattleya alliance ( such as Cattleya, Laelia, Sophronitis, etc) and they can all be crossed with one another to create an intergeneric hybrid-- which is what I suspect you have. The plant that I have seen whose flowers look similar is Iwanagara Apple Blossom. However, there are many hybrids that can look similar. These usually put out just one or two new new growths per year which usually flower upon maturation, or, depending upon the type, may flower several months after maturation. They are fairly high light plants, just be careful to avoid burning. They prefer to be grown quite dry but appreciate more watering and feeding when new growth emerges at the base of the plant.
