QuestionMy orchid has bloomed once in five years, the last time @ 2 years ago. Location has not changed. I was looking at it and noticed that it is extremely rootbound - it is in a small pot, and it looks like I could split it at least four ways. Otherwise it is very healthy - good colour etc. Could this be a reason it has not bloomed?? Is it safe to split the roots or should I just replant in a bigger pot. Any help would be appreciated. Thnx PL.
AnswerPercy, yes, you should repot your plant into a larger pot using a standard orchid potting mix and a pot with lots of drainage holes. Often, the reason for failure to flower is insufficient light, so, after repotting, try to move it to a someahet higher light environment, Leaves that are lighter shades of green are usually indicative of sufficient light, while those that are darker green suggest insufficient light for flowering. While I suspect that you have a phalaenopsis orchid, you should confirm that.
