QuestionI received an arrangement that had two orchids and some bamboo in it, they are cut off at the bottom but I was told that you can replant them and they will continue to grow? I would love to save these plants, is it possible?
AnswerMichelle, I have seen arrangements in the big box stores that have bamboo-like plants with orchid flowers in the arrangement. In the arrangements that I have seen, the orchid flowers are very real in appearance but are silk flowers. The bamboo-like growths may well grow on but, of course, no matter how real the orchids look, they are artificial. You may have something different, but I would check the orchids to see if they are affixed to the other growth by a wire. Unfortunately, most orchids can not be grown from stem cuttings, so if you do indeed have real orchid flowers in the arrangement, you will likely not be able to grow them from a flower stem. Were the orchids real plants and had roots, you might be able to plant them with success-- but not if you cut the roots off at the bottom.
