Flowering problem

Question

blc. cornerstone flowe
Hi!
Last summer I bought a cattleya in green (blc. Cornerstone) and when it bloomed one of the petals didn't place itself properly. I thought that it would eventually get it shape right, but after 4 weeks, I don't think that will happen.. :) So, do you know if it's cause by something I might have done or like all my other orchids, it just wants to drive me crazy? ..lol

Thank you in advance.
Sylvain.

Answer
Sylvain, I don't think this is a result of anything you have done.  If this is the first flowering, it is likely that the plant just isn't strong enough to properly open the flower. When the plant is larger, it should be able to support two or more flowers per growth.  I only see one in the photo.  Some cattleya hybrids produce crippled flowers, usually with missing flower parts or an extra petal or sepal. This is a genetic abnormality. Howver, I cannot see any extra or missing parts in your photo.  Grow the plant stronger and your next flowering should be better.
