QuestionI have bought several orchids over the years (10) and they all came with very tall spikes. They all look good and grow well in east and west windows. They have all bloomed more then once, but the spikes are not tall. Some are maybe 6 inches others 8, but nothing like when I bought them. The flowers look great, its just the spikes are not really tall. What can I do to grow nice tall spikes?
Thanks much
Brenda
AnswerBrenda, you just don't have greenhouse conditions which have been used to flower the plants you purchase. In th future, as the spikes begin to emerge, try increasing the light level by either supplementing the natural light or moving the plant closer to the window. While this might increase spike length to some degree, it still will not be as much light and humidity and air movement in the greenhouse.
