Question
White Phal
On my white phal orchid, one of the spike had a developing new bud. Now it has dried up and died before growing any bigger. What does this mean?
This orchid also has a leaf at the base that is turning yellow. I can attach a photo later for your review.
AnswerSanny, it requies a great deal of energy to produce buds and flowers. When the plant has reached its capacity, it will abort further buds. It may produce further buds when flowers fall. It is important to repot this plant in fresh orchid potting mix following flowering as its roots tend to rot in older, decomposed potting mix. When roots rot, leaves begin turning yellow and fall from the plant. It is not unusual to have an older leaf at the base of the plant turn yellow and fall off from the plant.
