Answer
Mary Ann, there are several possible explanations.  Since you didn't mention repotting it after the last flowering, I assume that you didn't do that.  Phalaenopsis should be repotted each year in fresh orchid potting mix-- after flowering.  Old potting mix tends to break down preventing the movement of air through the mix and remaining wet too long.  When this happens, root rot usually sets in.  When roots rot, the plant is weakened and the plant's ability to support growth is compromised. This is something you need to do when there are no more buds.  Fortunately, the rot has not advanced so far as to cause leaf yellowing as leaf loss and, eventually, plant death can result from the root rot.  When you are ready to repot, I can provide advice on how to proceed with the repotting.

Two other common reasons for bud drop are temperature and humidity.  Buds can fail to open and drop if the night-time temperature falls below 60 degrees or the humidity is low.  If you have an east facing window, that is the preferred window for growing phalaenopsis as they appreciate morning sunlight.  A south window is  bit tricky as it is a bit too bright and hot in the winter when the sun is in the south and not bright enough in the summer when the sun is in the north. However, the south window may be okay if you can protect the plant from direct sunlight by setting it further back from the window or using a curtain thrrough which some shading is afforded.
