QuestionI have a Baptistonia echinata that I purchaced in 2008 with a bloom spike that bloomed..I keep it under lights, humidity controlled,70 degrees, cooler at night..It sent up another bloom spike 12/09 but has failed to bloom, the spike is still there but nothing has happened..what's going on? new growth is happening at the base of the plant.
AnswerPat, there are several posible explanations. It sounds as if the plant received mixed messages. To bloom and send out new growth at the same time suggests that by continuing to water and feed the plant, it began new growth before it had finished it bloom cycle. Try cutting back on watering to replicate a rest period while keeping up the humidity. Since it possibility doesn't have enough energy to simultaneously bloom and start new growth. Also, try switching to a bloom booster plant food if you have not already done so. You could also try increasing the warmth and light. Let me know how this works out.
