QuestionWayne:
Great site....
In the series of questions, I didn't see much in the way of water, and orchid foods. In my area, tap water is out as it's very hard! So I use distilled water on all orchids at room temp. Also have used lately a mix of Guller Pro-Blend 19-18-16 at 1/4 strength and 2 drops of Superthrive in 1 gallon of room temp. water. The resulting growth is very, very good with heathy looking leaves. Since we just had rain, first in many months, using it in place of distilled.
Do you think I am doing all this correctly??
Thanks again for wonderful learning web site.
AnswerLeonard, glad you appreciate the site. It's hard to argue wih success. I too live in an area of hard water. Plants need some calcium and magnesiums which is absent in distilled water. I'm not familiar with the Guller Pro-Blend brand. If it contains calcium and magnesium compounds, it should be fine. If not, I suggest that you do a mix with about 40 percent hard water and 60 percent distilled or rain water. I have heard from those using reverse osmosis water that their plants go downhill after a while due to an absence of the cell wall building properties of calcium and magnesium.
