QuestionThis den. has been losing leaves since I bought it,it now has 2 leaves left and the psuedobulbs are still fat and healthy not shriveled up. Could you tell me the proper way to care for this orchid, I grow all my orchids outside on our Lanai here in Florida I don't have any problems with my others.
Thanks for your help
AnswerJoseph, it is not unusual for Dendrobium crysotoxum to lose leaves, especially on the older growths. I prefer to grow this plant in a wooden slat basket as it likes to have its roots exposed to the air. While the plant is in its resting phase, just be sure to water it enough to prevent the pseudobulbs from shrinking. Sounds like you have been treating it right. When new growth starts in the spring, it will do well on heavy feeding and watering. It prefers a good deal of light, humidity, and cooler temps. When there is no danger of frost, you can hang it outside in a semishaded location. It doesn't mind some direct sunlight. The pseudobulbs should be straw colored. If the pseudobulbs are more greenish, I would provide more light.
