Cymbidium spots

Question

Spots
I have a cymbidium that I have had for a year. I repotted it this fall. It was packed with roots but maybe 50-60% were dried out. I tried to do what I could to separate them but it was hard to do didn't know where to start. Anyway I have black spots on the base don't know if they are supposed to be there or not. I can see root growth through the clear pot. I also have bigger black spots on some leaves. I can only post one picture so it's just of the base. Has several new growths coming up so that isn't doing badly. I saw a post you had about fungus and soaking it in a copper fungicide. Should I do that to this one? I live in Colorado. Thanks.

Gelerie

Answer
Gelerie, yes I would unpot it and soak the entire plant in a solution of Phyton 27 (copper sulphate) at the rate of 1 Tsp per gallon for 10 minutes before repotting it to a fresh potting mix.  While this will not repair the damage done, it should help prevent spread to healthy tissue.  You should consider removing the worst affected areas before soaking it in the fungicide. Seal the cuts with cinnamon.
