Cattleya sick

Question
I have a Cattleya orchid. After giving too much attention, it is dying. I believed that I watered too much because the leaves turned yellow and the bottom of the new young stems turned dark and soft. I took it out of the spanish moss, which I repotted it with after reading a book. I guess that was a wrong chioce because the moss kept wet and made the roots rot. I cut the bad leaves and rotting roots off, and repotted it with orchid mix. I didn't soke the bark mix before repotting because I thought my orchid was dying because of too wet. I have one healthy stem, and another not too healthy stem now. I brought it to the bathroom everyday when I took shower to get some steam. I dare not water it.The leaves look winkled (still green). What should I do next to bring it back to healthy again?

Answer
Lena, normally, Cattleyas require a minimum of three health pseudobulbs to promote and support new growth. Check the remaining pseudobulbs to see if you have any healthy "eyes" at the base of the remaining pseudobulb(s). These "eyes" will be covered with a sheath and are the source of new growth. You will need to have at least one healthy eye if the plant is to grow.  Often, when these eyes stay wet, they die due to a fungus.  You did the right thing to repot it to a fir bark based mix and to keep it dry for now. It will require a rest period during which ir needs to be kept quite dry until new growth starts. If the eyes are gone or dead, then you have zero hope of recovery.  Also, if you have healthy eye(s) but less than three pseudobulbs, it will be  challenge to regrow the plant.  In the latter instance, start to water and feed the new growth when it appears.  It may be a year or two to regrow the plant back to blooming size under the best of circumstances.  Once growth resumes, you need to provide good light as Cattleyas like sunlight for at least part of the day.
