Orchid help please!

Question

Orchid1
I am currently growing an orchid that my grandmother gave me, in my room by the window. I don't know if it's growing right, but it bloomed four flowers at the end of it. I've attached a picture to this email, and I'll be sending two more following this one, I hope that helps.

I think it may be growing sideways, is there a way I can repot it or is that necessary?

Any help you can give me is very appreciated.

Thanks!

David

Answer
David, the phalaenopsis orchid you pictured was turned or moved while the flower spike was emerging.  Flower spikes always want to orient themselves in relation to the light source, so, once a flower spike starts growing, do not change the orientation of the pot relative to the light.  Also, after the flower spike is 6 inches or so in length, fasten it to a bamboo stake to support it and refasten it as it lengthens.  You may use twisty ties for this purpose.  Do not repot the plant until it has finished flowering.
