QuestionI have some orchids, white and sometimes pink, other smaller varieties, do not know names.
The stocks are getting very long on some, as long as almost a yard, would like to know if I could prune them and perhaps transplant them, it seems to be leggy and not very full at bottom.
Thank you for your answer.
AnswerMaria, it would be helpful to know the types of orchids you have. The "Stocks" on dendrobiums are, in fact, canes and should not be cut off unless they are dead. The "stocks" on phalaenopsis orchids are the actual flowering spikes. Phalaenopsis orchids have broad leaves at the base of the plant and the flower spikes originate in or around these leaaves and may elongate to 2 or more feet and may branch. After the flowers fall from these spikes, the spikes may be cut off just above the second or third node(ie joint). So, you can see that it makes a huge difference whether you have a dendrobium, phalaenopsis, or some other type altogether. If there is a plant tag in any of these plants, it would be helpful to know what is on the tag. Otherwise, maybe you could send a picture.
