Question
Should the bud shoot be cut off after the flowers fall off. I did not cut off last year's shoot and the shoot this year grew out of last years.  Please tell me if I should cut the old shoots off. Thanks so much for your answers.

Laura, you can cut the flower spike off just above the second or third node (ie joint) on the old flower spike. The plant might still send out a branch from the node just below your cut but, at least, you will have removed most of the old flower spike. You may want to be sure there are no new buds to open before you trim back the old flower spike.  A few phalaenopsis bloom most, or all, of the year on the same (ie old) flower spike.
