about a cattleya

Question
my plant is 4 years old  a flower bud started and tried up there seam to be several would be places where it could bloom is that possible for this year

Answer
Barbara, most cattleyas bloom from the location where the leaf joins the pseudobulb.  Usually there is a leaf sheath growing at this location and this protects the flower spike as it elongates within the sheath.  The flower spike within the sheath usually can be seen as a shadow.  Eventually, and sometimes wtih difficulty, the flower spike emerges from the sheath. Sometimes, if water gets into the sheath, the bud can rot before it emerges. Sometimes the sheath fails to emerge and the flower spike elongates without a sheath.  In these instances, without the protection of the sheath, the bud may dry up. If you have several new growths with pseudobulbs, it is yet possible that a flower spike can emerge from one or more of these new growths. It is unlikely, however, that the pseudobulb that attempted to flower will reflower.
