QuestionHelp, I was bringing in my vanda orchid last night because it was going down in the 30's. The top part with all of the leaves and flower broke off from the rest of the plant. Only the roots are hanging. Can I save either part? I am an amateur, but I was so excited because it was blooming.
Please any help will be greatly appreciated.
AnswerHello Debbie,
That is a definite "OOPS!". (grin)
You might be able to root the broken part in a pot with potting media, especially if there are a few roots on the broken part. Even if there are no roots, I'd give it a try.
But, if you have been growing it hanging without any media, you can try attaching the broken piece onto a wire or string and misting it several times a day until it grows a few roots.
If the flowers are all open, you might try cutting the stem off and placing it in a bud vase and water. This will allow the vanda plant to devote all of its energies towards survivng and growing roots.
Hope this helped.
