QuestionGood day, I received an orchid from my mother. She was tired of defending it against her cat and so I inherited it. It has about 5 wide blade leaves with 3 tall canes. Only one cane had a white/pink flower (similar to a magnolia). With the different types of care, I would like to know what it is if you would be so kind. Your help is definitely appreciated, thank you.
AnswerKat, if you can send a picture that would be helpful. My guess, based upon your description, is that it is a phalaenopsis or moth orchid. These have broad leaves and, when they flower, they send up flower spikes from which they bloom. Dendrobium orchids have canes and the leaves grow out from the canes. Those leaves are longer and narrower than those on a phalaenopsis. Try googling phalaenopsis orchid and see if the pictures you find look like your plant.
